West Coast USA Steel joist manufacturers routinely provide joists with 3x wood nailer attached. They design the chord to accommodate the screw holes which they provide. Design floor system as nailed diaphragm. This system required a “wood nailer” be attached to the top chord of the open web steel joist so that the sub-purlins and decking can be connected by standard nailing techniques.
